World Solar Photovoltaic Market Grew 19% in 2006

World solar photovoltaic (PV) market installations reached a record high of 1,744 Megawatts (MW) in 2006, representing growth of 19% over the previous year, says the annual PV market report issued today by Solarbuzz LLC, the San Francisco based solar energy consultancy. Who installed the most PV in 2006? Germany 55% or 960MW Japan 17% or 296MW USA 8% or 139MW Other 20% or 348MW The limiting factor on more growth and cheaper prices for 2006 was the availability of Polysilicon. Production rose 16% in 2006, however, polysilicon supply issues will continue to constrain cell production in 2007. |
